Some German politicians especially here in the Northern part of Germany are trying to bring up the subject of the supposedly dangerous dog breeds that were once used for dog-fights in order to win votes. The SPD-politician Mr. Wienholtz in charge of internal affairs in Schleswig-Holstein is promising voters to engage himself in forcing through a law that prohibits any dangerous so-called fighting-dog breeds for Germany or at least for this region. He is totally ignoring the fact that any larger dog can be trained in such a way that it becomes dangerous. It depends to a great deal on the person owning the dog. So instead of using the possibilities our law is already providing i.e. punishing any person that is deliberately training their dog in such a way that it will become dangerous they want to get rid of the dogs which by no means are all dangerous. It would be far more effective that the person will not be allowed to keep a dog in the first place. Once we start to prohibit the keeping of certain dog breeds where will it end? Because such people will switch to another breed. We therefore ask to support the German clubs who take care of those breeds and the responsible owners of such dogs by protesting either in writing or during election campaigns especially here. The people in Schleswig-Holstein will be voting on Feb. 27. 2000 and any responsible dog owner should make it clear that we are voters too and will not vote for a party that wants to prohibit dog breeds in Germany. Which dog breed will be next??? |

As of 27. Feb. we know that the SPD will continue to govern this area but we are pleased to learn that Mr. Wienholtz will no longer be the minister of internal affairs. We will have to see how things develop in the future. But none the less there will be a conference of all the ministers of internal affairs soon and whoever wants to support people fighting against discrimination of dog breeds can download a letter at the URL below and send it to the minister in charge of the area they live in or the Federal Minister of Internal Affairs. 24. April 2000: Please support the present activities of the organisation agains discrimination of dog breeds. They initiated actions against certain press releases e.g. BILD trying to manipulate people through their articles which are only showing their point of view in getting people sign lists in favour of prohibition of so-called fighting dogs. So, anyone that is against such a one-sided discrimination is called to sign up a list to demand of this paper to inform the public correctly and according to the truth which is their duty. |

10. July 2000: At this time the harrassment of owners and breeders is tremendous. There are several places where you can obtain information in the German language.
